Open Seat: A documentary following New York’s 3rd CD

“Open Seat” is a serial documentary produced by Sam Guzik for the editorial board.

Congressman Steve Israel was a rising star within the House Democratic leadership, with prominent committee assignments and influence with the President.

He shocked political observers in Washington and on Long Island when he announced in January that he wouldn’t seek re-election.

The campaign began as soon as Israel made his announcement in January, 308 days before the election.

The project will follow developments in the 3rd Congressional District with posting regular video updates. There will be additional chapters through election day and until January, when a new representative is sworn in.

Election 2014: Endorsement guide

Endorsement guide

The Editorial Board wrote endorsements in all of Long Island’s State Assembly and State Senate races and in races for Congress, Governor, Attorney General and State Comptroller. Online, the endorsement guide included more than 50 videos and issue-by-issue breakdowns of key races.

I was responsible for managing the production and editing all of the Board’s video content. In addition, I oversaw the presentation and promotion of endorsements online to ensure that they reached the largest possible audience with the greatest possible impact.
